CHARAMBA IS PANICKING BECAUSE THE CENTRE OF ZANU PF IS BREAKING
George Charamba has always survived in politics by serving two masters. He likes to act loyal, but he is loyal to no one. Today he works as the spokesperson for President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He gets his pay from the government and speaks the words of State House. But deep down, everyone knows his real master has always been Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. This is not something new. He did the same thing when Robert Mugabe was still in power. Back then he tried to play both sides until Grace Mugabe humiliated him in public for trying to walk in two camps. You would think he learned something from that day, but he did not.
Now he is in trouble again because the fight inside ZANU PF is growing. Charamba posted a long message online trying to hide the problems in the party. He used big English, emojis, and silly jokes to make it look like everything is fine. But the more he wrote, the more he showed that things are falling apart. He told people to stop talking about a fight between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga. He said “Haina bhobho storo iyoyo,” as if the issue is small. But his own message did the opposite. It showed that the issue is very real.
In his story, Charamba said Mnangagwa did two things at a ZANU PF conference that shocked everyone. First, Mnangagwa asked Chiwenga’s wife to help with a Ndebele word, even though there were other top leaders like Vice President Mohadi who could have done it. This was not a simple moment. In ZANU PF, these things always have meaning. It was a sign of respect to the Chiwenga family. Then Mnangagwa gave Chiwenga the chance to close the whole conference. Charamba said this move “delivered the Conference” into Chiwenga’s hands. These were not accidents. They were messages. When people in the party are fighting, every move is a sign.
Charamba tried very hard to say the two men are united. He said their speeches were the same. He said they used the same ideas and the same words. He said they agree on corruption and Vision 2030. But unity that must be explained this much is not real unity. When two leaders are truly united, nobody needs to write long stories to prove it. The truth is simple. Charamba’s story looks more like someone trying to calm a fire that is already burning.
He also spoke about the fight against corruption, the party rules, and Vision 2030. But these words mean nothing to ordinary people. How can the government say it is fighting corruption when corrupt people are protected every day? How can Charamba talk about the law when the same law is used to scare people, arrest activists, and silence the truth? Zimbabweans know the truth. The leaders follow the law only when it helps them stay in power.
At the end of his message, Charamba begged people not to argue with him. He said he was there and heard everything. But being in the room does not mean he understands the deeper fight. Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are playing a big game for power. Charamba is only a small piece in that game. He is trying to serve both men, but one day that will fail. When the two giants finally choose their sides, he may find himself with no one to protect him. That is the danger of serving two masters in a party built on fear, power, and secrets.
