President Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again shown that Zanu PF does not want real change in Zimbabwe. Today in Torwood, Kwekwe, he gave 10 000 chicks and stockfeed to the Midlands Zanu PF Women’s League. He calls it the Presidential Poultry Scheme, but it is just another way to control people through poverty.

For many years, Zanu PF has kept people poor on purpose. When people are poor, they depend on the ruling party for survival. They fear to speak out because they think the small help they get will stop. This is how Zanu PF has stayed in power. It gives small gifts to make people loyal, but the big problems of the country stay the same.

In a normal country, the government focuses on building a strong economy. It creates jobs. It builds industries. It makes sure people can earn enough to live with dignity. But in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF prefers handouts. The party would rather give chickens than fix the economy. It would rather give mealie-meal than fight corruption. It would rather give small things during rallies than build real development.

The poultry scheme looks like a kind thing, but it is not a real solution. The 10 000 chicks will not fix the falling currency. They will not solve unemployment. They will not make our hospitals better. They will not bring back companies that closed years ago. These chicks will only help a few people for a short time, and all of them are linked to Zanu PF. This is not national development. It is political loyalty-buying.

Real change is when every farmer and business person gets equal support. Real change is when the government gives everyone a fair chance to succeed without needing a party card. But Zanu PF is scared of people who are independent. If people can work and earn without the party, they will not vote for the party. So Zanu PF keeps people struggling.

After this event, the Women’s League will be told to work hard and remember who gave them the chickens. They will feel they must stay loyal. This is the true purpose of the scheme. It is not about helping people. It is about control.

Zimbabwe has so much potential. We have land, minerals, and talented people. But the country is held back by leaders who think poverty is good for politics. As long as the people suffer, the leaders feel safe. This is why they give chicks instead of jobs.

We must speak out against these tricks. We must reject fake solutions. Zimbabwe needs real development. We need leaders who believe in lifting all people, not just their supporters. Until that day comes, Zanu PF will continue to use poverty as a political tool, and our country will not move forward.

  1. This is exactly how Zanu PF has survived for decades by keeping people poor and desperate. Handing out chicks is not economic empowerment, it is political manipulation. You cannot fix a collapsed economy with poultry handouts while corruption eats everything behind the scenes. Thank you for exposing this truth so clearly.

  2. Exactly. A government that truly wants progress builds systems, not handouts. Imagine if the same money used on these political poultry schemes was put into reviving Sable Chemicals or ZISCO. Thousands of families would have income. Instead, we get chicks and slogans. Zimbabweans deserve better than this shallow politics.

  3. People must stop insulting development initiatives. Even small projects can uplift communities. Not every empowerment programme has to be about big factories. You criticise everything the President does, even when he is helping. Let those women benefit in peace.
