A NATION BLEEDING WHILE THE RULERS GET RICH

Something very strange is happening in Zimbabwe, and many people can feel it. Our hospitals are collapsing. People are dying from simple diseases. There are no medicines. Doctors and nurses are struggling every day. The whole health system is broken. But instead of fixing it for the people, Emmerson Mnangagwa and his friends are using this crisis to make money. Big money. Almost one billion United States dollars is now moving around in health tenders. And all these big contracts are going to people close to him. It is not by accident. It is a plan.

Everything started with a Facebook post. Youth Minister Tinoda Machakaire said he visited a hospital and felt sad. He said the situation was very bad. He even asked the President to go and see how people were suffering. Many people praised him and thought he was speaking for the poor. But some of us knew that this was not real. It was a setup. It was preparing the public for something bigger.

Soon after that post, Mnangagwa started visiting hospitals. He went to Parirenyatwa, Sally Mugabe Hospital and NatPharm. People thought he wanted to help. They thought he wanted to fix things. But behind the scenes, deals were already being arranged. Very big deals. It turns out Mnangagwa and his team were already planning contracts worth close to a billion dollars. These deals had nothing to do with helping the people. They were for his close friends and business partners, the same people who have been feeding from the state for many years.

One of these people is Wicknell Chivayo. He got a huge four hundred and thirty seven million dollar deal to supply cancer equipment. His company, TTM Global, is only a few months old. It was registered in South Africa and is linked to his luxury penthouse in Sandton. The deal was never advertised. No one else got a chance to bid. This is not fair. It is clear corruption. A young company with no record cannot get such a huge contract unless there is something happening in the background.

Another deal came after Mnangagwa met with the Belarus leader, Lukashenko. They agreed on a three hundred million dollar health project. This deal includes medicines, equipment and modernising hospitals. But again, people close to Mnangagwa are deeply involved. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, one of his closest allies, is said to be the adviser. He did not even travel to Belarus, but his hand is everywhere. Just days after Machakaire’s Facebook post, Mnangagwa’s inner circle met in Harare to discuss how to raise money for these deals. Everything was already in motion.

There is also Tempter Tungwarara, another friend of Mnangagwa. He was given a contract to fix hospitals without any tender. His company, Prevail International, has no record of real work outside government jobs. He lives a very fancy life, and he has been accused of fraud, unpaid loans and fake property deals. Still, Mnangagwa gave him a diplomatic passport and full state protection. His company is also behind things like boreholes, housing for war vets and the new State House wall that cost fifteen million dollars. All these projects had no tender.

These men are not fixing the health system. They are making millions while patients die in dirty wards with no medicine. Mnangagwa is using the pain of ordinary people to enrich his friends. Hospitals have now become a goldmine for those in power. Tenders are given in secret. Prices are inflated. And the poor cannot even buy simple painkillers.

The sad truth is that our health system has been turned into a corrupt business. Instead of serving the people, this government is serving itself. There is no transparency. No fairness. No care. What we are seeing is not leadership. It is theft. The people are suffering, but those in power continue to smile and sign more deals.

This is why we must speak out. Zimbabwe’s hospitals belong to the people, not to Mnangagwa’s friends. If we remain silent, more lives will be lost. Let us fight back. Let us expose them. Our nation deserves better.

  1. This is one of the most painful truths about Zimbabwe today. Our people are dying in hospitals that have become empty shells, yet the ruling elite treat the health sector like a private money-making machine. These billion-dollar tenders are not about saving lives. They are about feeding a few connected individuals while mothers sleep on the floor next to dying children. Thank you for exposing how Machakaire’s “concern” was only a smokescreen. We must keep unmasking these scams.

  2. Another long essay full of accusations but no proof. You blame the President for every contract as if you know how government procurement works. These projects will modernise hospitals, create jobs and save lives. But you choose to twist everything into a conspiracy because you want political attention. Zimbabwe needs development, not endless negativity from activists who have never built anything.
