THE TENDERPRENEUR WHO HOLDS ZIMBABWE BACK
Wicknell Chivayo is a businessman in Zimbabwe, and many people call him a tenderpreneur because he gets many government tenders. He is very close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This friendship has helped him become rich while many Zimbabweans remain poor. This is a big problem in our country, and it shows how our leaders continue to choose their friends over the people.
Chivayo is always in the news. He shows off expensive clothes, cars and holidays. He says he is successful, but many people ask a simple question. How did he get all this money? The answer is easy to see. He gets many government contracts. He is always close to people in power. When someone keeps winning tenders again and again while being close to the President, people begin to worry. Something is not right.
The biggest worry is corruption. Many people in Zimbabwe think Chivayo gets tenders not because he is the best person for the job, but because of who he knows. This is cronyism. It means giving work to friends instead of choosing someone who can do the job well. This is very bad for the country. It stops good and honest people from getting jobs. It destroys fair competition. It makes life harder for the poor.
The government keeps saying that it wants to fight corruption. But it is very hard to believe this when people like Chivayo keep getting more and more contracts. If the government is serious, then it must start by looking at people close to the President. No one should be protected. No one should be above the law. Not even a friend of the President.
Zimbabwe is a rich country in minerals like gold and diamonds. But our people are still suffering. Many do not have jobs. Many cannot afford food. Why is this the case? It is because a few people take the money for themselves and leave the rest of the nation in poverty. People like Chivayo get rich from public money while ordinary citizens struggle every day. This is not fair. This is not right. Our leaders must stop helping their friends and start helping the people.
Young people in Zimbabwe are losing hope. They finish school and find no jobs. They try to start small businesses, but they get no support. They watch tenderpreneurs becoming richer every day while they sit with nothing. This creates anger in the nation. It also kills the dreams of our young people, who feel forgotten by their own government.
People want change. They want leaders who care. They want a fair system where every Zimbabwean has a chance. We need leaders who listen to the people, not only to their friends. We need a government that works for the whole country, not one that protects a small group of tenderpreneurs.
Chivayo’s actions also affect politics. When one man has too much money and too much power, he can control many things. He can decide who gets what. He can silence people. This is very dangerous for our democracy. A country cannot be free when a few rich people control everything. Everyone must have a voice.
As a political activist, I say enough is enough. Zimbabweans must speak out. We must say no to corruption. We must say no to cronyism. We must say no to people who get rich while the nation suffers. Chivayo is not a hero. He is a sign of what is broken in Zimbabwe.
The future of our country is in our hands. We must stand up for justice. We must demand better. We must not be afraid. Together, we can change our nation. We can build a Zimbabwe where hard work matters more than connections. A Zimbabwe where the wealth of the country helps everyone, not just a few at the top. Let us rise and say no to corruption. Let us choose a new path for Zimbabwe.
