ZIMBABWE’S POLITICAL CRISIS: WAR VETERANS TURN AGAINST MNANGAGWA

Zimbabwe is once again in political trouble. There is a big fight in Zanu PF, the ruling party. President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, are not getting along. They both want power. This fight is making the country unstable.

One person making a lot of noise is Blessed Geza. He is a war veteran and was once an important member of Zanu PF. Now, he has been kicked out of the party. But he is not afraid. He is saying that Mnangagwa must leave power now.

Geza is very angry about Mnangagwa’s plans. Mnangagwa is supposed to leave office in 2028 after two terms. But there are reports that he wants to stay until 2030. People are saying this is a trick to get a third term. Mnangagwa says he follows the law, but his supporters are pushing for him to stay longer.

Geza does not believe in this. He has given Mnangagwa ten days to leave or face action. He later said the threat did not come from him, but many people think he is behind it. He also says he will go to the State House and take power. He says Mnangagwa is playing games, but his time is up.

This reminds people of the late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. Tsvangirai fought against former president Robert Mugabe for many years. In 2017, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga removed Mugabe in a coup. Now, Mnangagwa faces the same kind of trouble he helped create.

The problem is bigger than just one person. Inside Zanu PF, people are not happy. Some support Mnangagwa, but others think it is time for change. War veterans are also angry. They say Mnangagwa was never really in the liberation war. They fought, but he was living in Zambia. Now, they do not want him as their leader.

Even though Mnangagwa’s allies have attacked Geza, he is not giving up. He says he is fighting for all Zimbabweans, not just Zanu PF members. But many people in the country do not trust any Zanu PF leaders. They have seen these fights before. People wanted change in 2017 when Mnangagwa replaced Mugabe. But things did not get better. Now, people are not sure if Chiwenga would be any different from Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa has been in politics for a long time. He was very close to Mugabe. He helped Mugabe stay in power by doing many bad things. Some people say he was involved in the Gukurahundi massacres in the 1980s, where thousands of people were killed. When he took power in 2017, he said things would change. But that did not happen.

Under Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe still has a lot of problems. The economy is very bad. Many people are poor, and businesses are struggling. Corruption is everywhere. His government has been accused of stopping people from speaking freely. The police and army have been used to control the people. Many Zimbabweans have lost hope.

Now, war veterans are saying Mnangagwa must go. They accuse him of stealing money, giving jobs to friends, and destroying the economy. Other countries also do not trust him. The United States and Britain have punished some of his top officials by putting sanctions on them. They say Mnangagwa’s government does not respect human rights.

Right now, Mnangagwa has two big problems. First, the people are not happy. If the army stops supporting him, he may not be able to control the situation. Second, there is a fight inside Zanu PF. The people who helped him take power in 2017 are now against him. This could lead to another coup.

Zimbabwe is in a dangerous place. What happens next depends on the army, war veterans, and the people. Will Mnangagwa survive this crisis? Or will he be removed just like Mugabe? The answer will come soon.
