BULAWAYO’S VOTE SPEAKS LOUD
Bulawayo, a key place in Matabeleland, has made its voice heard. The recent win of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) in the 2023 elections is not just a normal win. It shows the long-held pain of a place troubled by its past. It’s a strong reminder of a sad event called Gukurahundi, where about 20,000 innocent people were killed. This should never be forgotten.
Many years have passed since the Gukurahundi sad times. But the hurt is still fresh. It’s a scary history. A history where some army people, ordered by the now Zimbabwean President, did very bad things to innocent people in Matabeleland and Midlands areas.
For a long time, Bulawayo and nearby places have asked for justice and answers. The CCC’s win in Bulawayo, the biggest city there, shows clearly that these old demands are still very strong and growing louder every year.
The elections talked about new issues and promises, but a big underlying theme was the Gukurahundi event. It’s a painful part of history that people feel has not been properly addressed by the country’s leaders. By voting for the CCC, people have sent a strong message: they still need answers and justice.
Why is the Gukurahundi topic coming up strongly in 2023? One reason is the younger people, with the help of the internet, are learning and talking about this sad history. The internet and social media are helping to keep this dark history alive and talked about.
Also, the families of the victims still remember the sad events. They have stories of lost family members and broken dreams. These stories have been shared through generations. They now ask for justice, not just for the past, but also for a better future.
The CCC’s win is a loud message from the people of Matabeleland. They want their problems to be looked into. They ask for justice, peace, and to be understood. They tell the leaders of Zimbabwe and the whole world that the Gukurahundi event should not just be a small part of history.
The people of Bulawayo are tired of living under ZANU PF bondage.
