A BUMPY ROAD: ELECTORAL WOES IN ZIMBABWE
In a country like Zimbabwe, surprising things keep happening. Recently, something big came out about the electoral commission there. One person in the commission is related to Kembo Mohadi, who was brought back into power even after some wrong doings. The electoral commission, which should be fair, admitted that there are wrong things happening during voting. But instead of trying to fix it, they blamed the police. The police also have problems and are controlled by the same people who are doing bad things in the government.
Now, think about this – the police who should protect people, don’t do much. When some bad guys, who don’t have jobs and misuse drugs, attack others, the police just stand and watch. They don’t do their job. So, how can we expect them to help when the electoral commission does unfair things? Both the police and the electoral commission are controlled by the same powerful group, and they don’t want to lose their power.
If you go to report any wrong things happening during voting, like violence or cheating, the police who should help, won’t do much. They too are scared because their bosses watch over them when they vote. They are controlled by a group who is doing bad things, and this group is scared. They fear that if voting is fair, they will lose power. So, they let wrong things happen during voting, and don’t want to fix it.
This is a big problem for the people of Zimbabwe. They want to vote for who they like, but with all these wrong things happening, it’s hard. The electoral commission and the police should help make voting fair, but they don’t. They are controlled by a group who only cares about keeping power, not about what’s right. This makes the road to fair voting very bumpy in Zimbabwe, and it’s a sad tale of how the powerful can do wrong to stay in control.
