UNFAIR TREATMENT OF CITIZENS IN ZIMBABWE

As the general elections get near, there is a lot happening in Zimbabwe’s politics. The ruling party, Zanu PF, is known for its smart moves to gain more support. But lately, things have taken a scary turn.

A video has shown some scary actions by Zanu PF towards the citizens. They are forcing people to come to their party gatherings all over the country. But at what cost?

The video shows people being pushed into buses without caring for their safety. Zanu PF’s way of doing things has changed, making a process that should be free and safe into something dangerous. After the gatherings, people are left on their own, which is worrying.

The only thing people get is a small fast-food meal, known as a “free lunch.” But this small gift doesn’t cover the risks and problems people face for coming to these gatherings. It asks the question if a small meal is worth putting people’s safety in danger.

Recently, a bus filled with people was seen leaving Harare for faraway rural places. This happened after a big rally by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare. It shows how desperate Zanu PF is to show they have a lot of support.

Zanu PF is working hard to move people around the country to show they are popular. They are trying to look more popular than their rival, the CCC. But this is risky and aims to change what people think to keep the party strong.

As elections come near, this situation shows a big problem about fair political competition. Democracy needs active and smart citizen participation, but not at the cost of their safety. The unsafe ways of Zanu PF bring doubt to the democratic process and spoil the party’s good name.

In conclusion, Zanu PF’s dangerous ways as elections come closer is worrying. The careless moving of individuals to rallies, with no care after, asks big questions about the party’s true concerns. A small fast-food meal doesn’t compare to the risks people face for political involvement. Zimbabweans deserve politics that care for their rights, safety, and good living above everything. As elections approach, a safer and fair political way is needed, one that really cares for the citizens it wants to represent.

  1. Using tactics that create an illusion of widespread support can backfire, as it may not translate into genuine electoral success. True political strength lies in the authentic support of the electorate, derived from policies and actions that positively impact citizens’ lives. Authentic engagement and dialogue with the electorate are far more valuable for political legitimacy than manufactured displays of popularity.

  2. The reports of people being transported to rallies in unsafe conditions, without adequate care for their safety or well-being afterward, are deeply troubling. Political activities should never put participants’ safety at risk. The responsibility to ensure the safety of rally attendees before, during, and after the event falls squarely on the organizing party.

  3. Forcing citizens to attend political rallies compromises the voluntary nature of political participation, which is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy. While political parties should encourage engagement and support, this engagement must always be voluntary and safe. Coercion undermines the legitimacy of the support a party claims to have and raises serious concerns about respect for personal freedom and democratic values.
